Reckley's Short-Handed Goal Lifts St. John Fisher To 1-0 Win Over Manhattanville

FAIRPORT, NY – On the strength of a short-handed goal in the final period and another stellar performance from freshman goalkeeper Brynn Bacak, the St. John Fisher women's ice hockey team edged Manhattanville 1-0 on Saturday morning at the Rochester Ice Center.

The Cardinals (7-9-1, 2-3-1 UCHC) pushed their winning streak to a season-high three games with the victory. Manhattanville (2-14-1, 2-4-0 UCHC) dropped its 10th consecutive contest.

How It Happened

Manhattanville peppered Bacak with 10 shots and held Fisher to just three shots in a scoreless opening period.

Bacak made 13 more saves to keep the game scoreless in the second frame, while the Cardinals' offense generated more opportunities, placing 12 shots on target. Both teams had two power-play opportunities in the first two periods.

The game's lone goal came 1:21 into the final period, shortly after a Fisher penalty gave Manhattanville its third power-play opportunity of the contest. After winning a faceoff, freshman forward Keira Reckley chased down a loose puck near the blue line and maneuvered past a pair of Manhattanville defenders before sneaking a short-handed, unassisted goal past goalkeeper Olivia Cimorelli.

Bacak made three more saves the rest of the way to finish the contest with 26.

Game Notes

  • Bacak moved into a tie for the UCHC lead with her third shutout of the season.

  • Reckley tallied three points this weekend with a goal and two assists. She now leads the team with 10 points.
