Martin's Overtime Heroics Keep Albertus Magnus Unbeaten In Win Over Nichols

HARRISVILLE, RI - A goal from Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) in overtime kept the Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team unbeaten as it defeated Nichols College, 3-2 in overtime on Friday evening in their first game of the 2026 calendar year in non-conference action.

Martin's goal came at the 1:03 mark overtime. After she took a pass from Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.), Martin skated towards the boards near the goal line, brought the puck back out and fired a shot over the right shoulder of goaltender, Ivy Grant to give the Falcons the win.

Clark also added a goal on the day, while Martin also had an assist. Kurtia Yetman (Winnipeg, Manitoba) also scored a goal in her first game of her career.

The Falcons continued their best start in program history and are now 8-0-1 this season. Nichols is now 2-9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first four goals of the game all came in the first period as the Bison got on the board to take a 1-0 lead at the 5:15 mark as Keira Goffe stole the puck in the defensive end and raced down with the puck and took a shot past Albertus goaltender, Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) to make it a 1-0 game.
  • At the 11:55 mark of the first period, Martin sent a crossing pass to Clark who snuck in behind the defense and had an easy shot on goal to tie the game on the power play.
  • The Bison regained the lead less than three minutes later as Sienna Reeves stole the puck at center ice and fed Goffe who beat the Albertus defense back and scored her second goal of the game, making it a 2-1 game.
  • With just 75 seconds left in the first period and the Falcons on the penalty kill, Aliyah Sawyer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tipped a pass to Briony Retasket (Beaverton, Ore.) to start a breakaway for the Falcons. Retasket then fed Yetman on a 2-on-2 who then beat Grant glove side for her first career goal and to tie the game at 2-2 shortly before the first intermission.
  • After the offensive outburst in the first period, Johnson and Grant didn't allow a puck in again the rest of regulation. Johnson stopped all 10 shots she faced in the final two periods, while Grant stopped 15.
  • Martin's goal, her ninth of the season, was also her third game-winning goal this season and sixth of her career.
