Albertus Magnus Rallies From Four-Goal Deficit To Stun Manhattanville, 6-4

NEW HAVEN, CT - In a comeback for the ages, the Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team scored six unanswered goals and rallied from a four-goal deficit to take the first game of a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) weekend series against Manhattanville University, 6-4 at Ralph Walker Ice Rink.

The four-goal comeback is the largest in program history. 

Six different Falcons scored a goal on the night. Zane Kindrachuk (Calgary, Alberta), Sam Lozinski (Calgary, Alberta), and Maksim Tsegelnik (Moscow, Russia) each had a goal and an assist. Jack DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) scored his first career goal and Charles Lavoie (Chicoutimi, Quebec) and Kyle Dann (Windham, N.H.) each added a goal for Albertus. 

Caleb Chabot (Blainville, Quebec) took over duties in goal in the second period and stopped all 13 shots he faced to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Valiants opened the scoring at 6:34 in the first period when Johno Hoins took a pass from off the boards from Corey Popowcer and put a shot in the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game. The Valiants managed to go into the first intermission with a 3-0 lead as they took advantage of a five minute power-play. Caden Eaton found the net at 13:16 after Hoins sent the puck his way on a one-timer just in front of the net. At 14:26, the Valiants scored another power play goal, courtesy of Tristan D'Elia. Lucas Baksay had the assist.
  • Manhattanville added one more goal to increase their lead early in the second period as Brett Logelfo fed the puck to Beau Depencier.
  • The Falcons finally got on the board late in the second period as Lavoie scored his fifth of the season after taking a pass from Tsegelnik from just in front of the net to make it a 4-1 game at the 15:49 mark. Justin Sullivan (Laval, Quebec) also added an assist on the play.
  • With only a few minutes remaining in the second, AJ Lackas (Las Vegas, NV) won the faceoff in the left circle and passed the puck back to DeMoura, who snapped a shot from the point to make it a 4-2 game at the 17:25 mark.
  • With the Falcons on the power play early in the third period, Tsegelnik took a pass from Kindrachuk just in front of the net and fired one past Manhattanville goaltender, William Billequey to cut the Manhattanville lead to 4-3. William Lavigne (Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Quebec) also added an assist on the goal at 1:27 in the third.
  • The power play continued to work in the Falcons' favor as Kindrachuk notched his team-leading ninth goal of the season after putting home a rebound off a shot from Lozinski who took a pass from Connor Bertamini (Calgary, Alberta), tying the game at 4-4.
  • Just 34 seconds later, Lozinski intercepted the puck in the defensive zone and beat the Valiants down the ice and backhanded a shot past Billequey to give the Falcons its first lead of the game.
  • Dann added an empty net goal with just 46 seconds remaining for the final goal of the game for the Falcons.

  • The Falcons improved to 5-1 overall against Manhattanville.
  • Zane Kindrachuk now has 46 career points, putting him 7th all-time. His power-play goal is the 10th in his career, putting him at a tie for second all-time.
  • Tsegelnik's power-play goal was the first power-play goal of his career.
  • Lozinski's goal was the first game-winner of his career.
