Bertamini Scores Game-Winner; Lozinski Scores Twice As Albertus Magnus Beats Post

SHELTON, Conn. -  The Albertus Magnus men's ice hockey team took home a 3-2 win over the Post University Eagles in a non-conference road matchup on Tuesday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton. Albertus Magnus moves to 7-5 overall and Post falls to 3-8-1.

Sam Lozinski (Calgary, Alberta) scored his first two career goals. Connor Bertamini (Calgary, Alberta) had the game-winning goal and had an assist.

Caleb Chabot (Blainville, Quebec) took home his first career win in goal, stopping 26 of 28 shots in his first start. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Eagles jumped to a 1-0 lead late in the first period as Eoin Reager found an opening off of a deflection to sneak the puck past Chabot. Jacob Howell and Hugh McGuigan were credited with the assists.
  • At 4:23 in the second period, with the Falcons on the penalty kill, Bertamini intercepted the puck in the neutral zone to set up the breakaway goal by Lozinski to tie the game at 1-1. The shorthanded goal was Lozinski's first career collegiate goal.
  • Just over a minute later, Post regained the lead on a goal by Bradley McMains. Howell and McGuigan were credited with the assists once again for the Eagles.
  • It didn't take long for Lozinski to score his second career goal as he found the puck on a deflection from Sam Witt (Calgary, Alberta) to tie the game, 2-2 at the 13:01 mark in the second period.
  • With under a minute to play in the second period, Bertamini scored a power-play goal to put Albertus in front 3-2 after tipping in a shot from Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario). Zane Kindrachuk (Calgary, Alberta) was also credited with an assist.
  • A scoreless third period earned the Falcons the win as Chabot had nine saves in the final 20 minutes.

NOTEWORTHY

  • With his goal and assist, Bertamini now sits at a tie for eighth all-time in points, and seventh all-time in assists.
  • Witt now sits ninth all-time in assists. 
  • Albertus has won the last three games against Post and lead the all-time series, 4-3.

The men's ice hockey team returns home to Ralph Walker Ice Rink on Saturday, Jan. 10 for a non-conference matchup against Connecticut College. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
