Judkiewicz Notches Two As No. 7 Nazareth Tops Utica, 3-1

UTICA, NY – Sophomore Brooke Judkiewicz notched her first multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice, as the No. 7 ranked women's hockey squad took down Utica 3-1 on Saturday to complete the weekend sweep. The Golden Flyers won by an identical 3-1 margin on Friday at Tim Horton's Iceplex. Nazareth moves to 18-0-1 and 8-0-0 in league play, while Utica falls to 4-14-1 and 3-5-0, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • For the first time in the weekend series, Nazareth found itself trailing in the opening period less than three minutes in. The score remained 1-0 into the second.
  • Nearly seven minutes into the second, the 7th-ranked Flyers were able to find the back of the net on the power play. A cross-crease pass by Logan Marchese found Judkeiwicz in the slot for a one-time slapper into the open net. Mia Abruzzese also had an assist on the play.
  • Nazareth took its first lead of the game early in the third period on a beautiful goal from Abruzzese. Amy Laskowski put out a pass that Abruzzese took wide past the defender and pushed a one-handed shot past the goalie.
  • Judkiewicz gave the Golden Flyers some breathing with under seven minutes to play, once again cashing in the slot to make it 3-1.
  • After making 17 saves the day before, freshman goaltender Mia Gonsalves made 16 saves, including 8 in the third period to earn the win.
GAME NOTES:
  • Nazareth finished 1-6 on the power play, while the Pioneers were 0-5.
  • Judkiewicz surpassed her 12 assists from her freshman campaign and now sits with 13 for the season. She is also just a point away from her season total in 2024-25 when she had 20.
  • Abruzzese recorded her second game-winning goal of the season.
