Nazareth Rallies Past Fisher, 4-2 in First Men's Battle of the Beaks Contest

FAIRPORT, NY –  An ice issue at the Rochester Ice Center delayed the inaugural Battle of the Beaks hockey rivalry between Nazareth (10-6-3, 4-5-1) and host St. John Fisher (9-11, 3-9) on Friday night and moved the game to an alternate rink. Following the delay, however, the Golden Flyers outlasted the Cardinals by the score of 4-2 behind a pair of goals apiece from Charles Ross and Kai Shen.

How It Happened:
  • Fisher opened the scoring 7:17 into the first period when Mitchell Ferras beat the Golden Flyers' Paul Dalessio. It was Ferras's fourth goal of the season.
  • Nazareth answered midway through the second period with a power play goal by Ross.
  • After the teams scored a total of two goals in the opening 40 minutes of the contest, each team found the net in the opening eight minutes of the third.
  • Less than five minutes into the third period, the Cardinals' James Evans reclaimed Fisher's lead with a power play goal.
  • The Cardinals' 2-1 lead was short-lived as the Golden Flyers tied the game a few minutes later on Shen's first goal of the game.
  • Shen gave Nazareth its first lead of the game with 5:24 remaining in regulation when he scored on the power play.
  • Ross added an empty net goal with 10 seconds to play to secure the Golden Flyers' victory.
