Nazareth Battles Back to Beat St. John Fisher, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY - Goals by Blake Frost and Charles Ross powered Nazareth to a massive win against St. John Fisher on Saturday night, 2-1. After the weekend sweep of the Cardinals, the Golden Flyers improve to 12-6-3 overall and 6-5-1 in UCHC conference play. 
 
How It Happened:
  • Midway through the first period, the Golden Flyers saw themselves on a powerplay that would then turn into a two man advantage. They were able to generate seven quality shots but the cardinals goalie stood tall.
  • The first period was a strong one for the Golden Flyers, leading in shots 16-8 but it would end in a scoreless tie, 0-0. 
  • After a strong first period, St. John Fisher began to carry play early on, resulting in a goal off a deflection to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • With just over a minute left in the second frame, Blake Frost tracked down a full ice flip, beat the defender to it, then made a slick move on the goalie and tucked it in on his forehand to tie the game at one. Logan Tobias and Nate Mann were credited with the assists.
  • The shots through two periods were 22-17 in favor of Nazareth.
  • Six minutes into the third period, defenseman Charles Ross put Nazareth ahead 2-1 with a shorthanded goal. He picked up the puck in the neutral zone, flew down the right side past the Cardinal defense, and snipped a short side shot for an unassisted goal.
  • That goal proved to be the difference as Nazareth took it, 2-1. The shots on goal total ended 34-26, in favor of Nazareth. 
Game Notes:
  • Blake Frost and Charles Ross now share the team lead in goals with 7
  • Logan Tobias and Nate Mann both picked up one assist
  • Paul Dalessio had a strong game in net, stopping 25/26 shots
  • Nazareth went 35/59 (59%) at the faceoff dot

  • The Golden Flyers are back at it next Friday, February 13th as they will travel to Brockport for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
