Nazareth and Elmira to Represent UCHC in NCAA Quarterfinals Saturday

Golden Flyers look to earn first Frozen Four berth in program history; Elmira aims to garner 13th trip to the Frozen Four

The Nazareth University Golden Flyers and Elmira College Soaring Eagles are set to represent the UCHC in the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 21. Nazareth, the No. 3 overall seed, hosts Wilkes University from the Rochester Ice Center at 3 p.m., while Elmira heads east to take on Amherst College, also at 3 p.m.

Nazareth enters the NCAA Quarterfinal game with a 25-1-1 overall record, ranked third nationally in the NCAA Women’s Hockey National Power Index. Nazareth went a perfect 14-0-0 and earned 42 out of a possible 42 points in UCHC league play this season. The Golden Flyers recorded a 26-game unbeaten streak and winning streaks of 14 and 11 games, respectively, earlier in the season.
 
Nazareth is out-scoring its opponents, 122-32 this season and have 10 players with at least 10 points and seven with at least 20 points. The Golden Flyers are among the top-five in nearly every team category in Division III. Sophomore Amy Laskowski, the UCHC Player of the Year is among the NCAA leaders with 25 goals and 49 points with a plus-32 rating, while Brooke Judkiewicz has 21 assists and also has 10 goals. Meredith Boettcher has 17 goals and 30 points, while Nikki Sharp has 26 points and Logan Marchese has 13 goals. In net, Mia Gonsalves is 23-1-1 with a 1.30 goals against average,.923 save percentage, and four shutouts.

Nazareth is making its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, the Golden Flyers won their first NCAA Tournament game in program history and advanced to the national quarterfinals. Nazareth will look to claim its first trip to the national semifinals in program history.

Wilkes, a former UCHC league member, also enters Saturday's game with a 25-1-1 record. The Colonels, who won the MAC Championship, earned a berth in the quarterfinals after defeating Adrian College, 2-1 in NCAA First Round action last weekend. Jordan Ferry and Abby Bush scored for Wilkes, while Audrey Milne made 32 saves. 

The Colonels have out-scored opponents, 130-29 in 2025-26. Haylee Bouchard leads Wilkes in scoring with 53 points on 17 goals and 36 assists and is plus-49, while Nina Hudakova has a team-best 22 goals to go along with 25 assisrs for 47 points. Renee Ng has 19 goals. Milne is 21-1-1 with a 1.17 goals against average, .947 save percentage, and eight shutouts.
 
The Soaring Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Nazareth University, 4-1 in the UCHC Championship game on March 7. Elmira handed Nazareth its first loss of the season. The Soaring Eagles continued their winning ways on the road in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on March 14, scoring three second period goals to get past Augsburg University, 3-1. Jenna Allen, Rian Comeau and MK Boyle scored goals for Elmira.

Elmira enters Saturday's game with a 20-5-2 overall record, riding an eight-game winning streak. The Soaring Eagles are out-scoring opponents, 96-37 this season and have nine players with at least 10 points.
 
Anna Lugge, the UCHC Championship Most Valuable Player, leads the Soaring Eagles in scoring with 21 goals, 17 assists, 38 points and a plus-22 rating. MK Boyle is second on the team in scoring with 28 points on 15 goals and 13 assists, while Alayna Toole has 11 goals. Toole leads all of Division III with five shorthanded goals. Olivia Last has emerged as the starting goaltender and is 9-1-1 in net with a 0.95 goals against average and a .956 save percentage to go along with four shutouts.

The Soaring Eagles advanced to the NCAA Championship game in 2023-24 and have won three NCAA Division III Championships (2001-02, 2002-03, 2012-13). Elmira is in the NCAA Tournament for the 20th time since 2001-02 and is looking to make its 13th trip to the Frozen Four.

Amherst enters Saturday's game with a 20-2-6 record, having won the NESCAC Championship. The Mammoths defeated The College of St. Benedict, 2-1 in overtime, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on March 14. Gretchen Dann scored the game-winner, 2:36 into the extra session to lift Amherst to victory.

Amherst has out-scored foes, 68-20 this season. Maeve Reynolds leads Amherst in scoring with 28 points on 10 goals and 18 assists, while Dann has a team-best 15 goals. Natalie Stott is 19-2-6 in net this season with a 0.65 goals against average, .971 save percentage and 11 shutouts. Amherst has allowed more than one goal in a game just three times this season.
