NEW HAVEN, CT - Albertus Magnus College Director of Athletics Michael Kobylanski has announced the hiring of Tim Richter as the school's new men's ice hockey coach. He will officially begin his duties on Tuesday, August 11.

Richter brings over a decade's worth of experience as a coach and student-athlete at the Division II and Division III levels to the Falcons. He spent his last four seasons as head coach of the men's ice hockey team at Post University in Connecticut, after serving seven years as an assistant coach for the Eagles.

"I am thrilled to welcome Tim and his family to the Albertus Magnus community," Kobylanski said. "After a thorough national search, it was clearly evident that the best individual to lead our program forward in the years ahead was right in our own backyard. Tim's knowledge of the game, ability to build relationships and burning desire to advance Albertus men's hockey on the national stage were all communicated clearly throughout the interview process. I am excited to see the continued elevation of our men's ice hockey program under Tim's leadership."

During his time at Post, Richter guided his team to two Northeast-10 (NE-10) Tournament appearances, including a trip to the semifinals in the 2025-26 season. Richter coached nine All-Conference performers at Post, including two NE-10 Rookies of the Year.

"I am grateful and excited to be named the next head coach of the men's ice hockey program," Richter said. "I'd like to thank the administration and the athletic department for their confidence in me and the opportunity to lead this outstanding program. This team has a strong tradition, and I'm eager to build on that foundation with a culture centered on hard work, accountability, and competing every day. Richter has also worked at IPH Hockey LLC as a hockey skills instructor and a managing partner while also spending time as the split season midget hockey director with the Connecticut Chiefs.

In his playing days at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, Richter appeared in 51 games, accumulating 37 points on 18 goals and 19 assists. 

After college, Richter played four seasons for the Danbury Whalers/Titans of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2013-14 after scoring 28 goals with 42 assists in 56 games. He also spent time with the Evansville Icemen of the East Coast Hockey League and the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Richter, a Connecticut native, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from UMass-Boston in 2013.

The Falcons are coming off a 2025-26 season in which they finished 16-10 and qualified for the UCHC Tournament in their first year in the league.
