UTICA, NY - The No. 3 Utica College men's ice hockey team can now count its winning streak at ten games. Visiting Chatham didn't make it easy, holding Utica to a 1-0 lead after two periods, but a pair of goals in the third added additional insurance as the Pioneers prevailed by a 3-0 score at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
The Pioneers are now 17-2 overall, while maintaining a perfect 13-0 mark in league play. They maintain their hold on the conference lead with 39 standings points. Utica has now won 20 straight regular season conference games since a loss in the 2020-21 season opener.
Bryan Landsberger led the way for UC with a shutout in a second straight start. He made 14 saves to improve to 3-0 for his young career. Landsberger out-dueled a tremendous effort from Chatham netminder Ricardo Gonzalez, who made 42 saves to keep the Cougars in the game.
Brian Scoville scored the first two goals of his Utica career, while Dante Zapata delivered a power play goal in the third and tacked on an assist on Scoville's first goal. Remy Parker, Brett Everson, Brandon Osmundson, Jamie Bucell, and Cameron Patton also had assists.
The Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 lead at 11:19 of the first period by way of Scoville. Zapata carried the puck around the net and sent it to Scoville at the point. Scoville cranked a shot through a screen and past Gonzalez for the 1-0 lead.
UC handily carried the play through two periods, but had difficulties finding the net again against Gonzalez until the third. Utica held a 28-8 shots on goal advantage through 40 minutes against a pesky visiting effort.
In the third, the floodgates opened for the Pioneers to extend their lead. Scoville found some good fortune on his second goal, as a seemingly harmless shot from the wing trickled through the pads of Gonzalez for a 2-0 lead at 2:32. The Utica power play would finish the job with a goal in a fourth straight game, as Zapata pounced on a loose puck and jammed it into the net at 15:29 to finish off the scoring.
The Pioneers will host Nazareth College on Saturday. Game time for the UCHC matchup is set for 2 p.m.
