ROCHESTER, NY – After recording three consecutive one-goal loses, including two in overtime, the Nazareth University Men's Hockey team used a high-powered offense to score a 5-1 win over Lebanon Valley Saturday in the second game of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) weekend series.
Nazareth (1-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 UCHC) scored in each period and poured in three goals in the second period to run away from the Dutchmen (2-2-0, 1-1-0 UCHC).
Junior Josh Dressler scored twice and added a pair of assists to lead the offense and he assisted on the first goal of the game that was credited to fellow junior Anthony Quinlivan in the first period. The first goal came with confusion in front of the Lebanon Valley goal and Quinlivan was credited with slipping the puck past the Dutchman goalie for the early Nazareth lead.
In the second period, Dressler scored twice including the first at 6:04 of the period with an unassisted goal after stealing the breakout attempt.
Freshman Cole Bauman gave Nazareth a 3-0 lead a minute later with a goal as assists were credited to junior Liam Quinlivan and goalie Matt Sayles.
Dressler made it 4-0 at the 9:52 mark with his second goal of the period as junior Joey Schaefer and Anthony Quinlivan picked up the helpers on the play.
Lebanon Valley scored three minutes into the final period, but Schaefer added a goal with 6:18 left to play to regain the four-goal advantage. Dressler had a pass from the point to earn his fourth point of the game.
Sayles had double-digit saves in each period and finished with 33 on the afternoon to record the victory – the 16th of his career.
Nazareth returns to action Friday and Saturday for a conference weekend series at Arcadia. The Knights dropped a pair of games to Manhattanville over the weekend.
