SUNY Geneseo Completes Weekend Sweep with 6-3 Over Chatham

PITTSBURGH, PA: The Geneseo Men's Hockey team defeated the Chatham Cougars in their second match against them this weekend, winning 6-3. The Ice Knights advance to 3-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Geneseo opened the first period with a goal one minute into play, with Alex Dameski shooting top shelf, with the assist from Filip Wiberg.  

  • The Courgars scored their first on the night at the six-minute mark. Sterling Wolters answered back at 12:42 to retake the lead with a beautiful bar down shot. Cooper Fensterstock and Gabriel LaFlamme were on the assist and the Knights end the first up 2-1. 

  • In the second, Geneseo held strong as they had a 5 on 3 penalty kill halfway through the period. Carter Diceman finally found the back of the net at 13:47 on a wraparound shot, with Cannon Green and Luke Munroe getting the assists. The Knights stayed on top for the remainder of the period and went into the third leading 3-1.  

  • Chathams offensive was aggressive in the third, tying the score at 3-3 after scoring two goals in 15 second. Wolters had a great slapshot on a delayed penalty call that made its way past the goalie but was called back.  

  • Diarmad DiMurro gave the Knights the lead at 12:35 from an incredible cross-crease pass from Gabriel Laflamme. Fensterstock had the second assist.  

  • The Knights finished the game with Luke Panchisin getting a cross-ice pass from Morgan and scoring from the dot .4 left to play. DiMurro and Morgan had the assists and Geneseo ends the game winning 6-3 over the Cougars. 

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Diarmad DiMurro and Cooper Fensterstock each had a goal and assist tonight 

  • Geneseo outshot Chatham 59-23.  
  • Jacob Torgner recorded his 10th career win.
