Nazareth Nips Elmira 2-1 in Season Opener

PINE VALLEY, NY - The Nazareth men's hockey team started the 2024-25 season with a win over the Elmira downing the Soaring Eagles 2-1 on Friday night. 
 
The scoring opened at the 17:02 mark in the first period when Liam Quinlivan took a slapshot from the point and Ethan Louisos tipped it into the back of the net making the score 1-0.
 
Elmira then tied the game later in the first period. The Soaring Eagles made good with a power play and responded with 5:22 left of the first making the game 1-1. 
 
The score remained 1-1 through the rest of the first period and remained the same late into the second.
 
Cole Bauman had the game-winning assist on the second goal of the game as he set up freshman Andrew Miller for his first collegiate goal with 5:59 left of the second period. 
 
The Golden Flyers started the third period with a lead of 2-1. 
 
During the third period Nazareth applied pressure to the Soaring Eagles defense zone, but didn't come away with anything. 
 
Dylan Wiemer had hist first start as a Golden Flyers making 21 saves to earn the win.

The United Collegiate Hockey Conference is a collaborative effort to provide a competitive environment and structure for NCAA Division III men's and women's ice hockey in the Eastern United States.
