Lethal Power Play Propels Manhattanville Past Nazareth, 4-1

RYE, NY - Back to their winning ways, the Manhattanville University men's hockey team continued to score in bunches at the cozy confines of Playland Ice Casino, romping the visiting Golden Flyers, 4-1, on Friday night. With the tally, the Valiants now reside at 3-2-0, with that same mark in UCHC play.

There was no shortage of offense as the Valiants hit the tables at the Ice Casino, as the crimson and red struck first using the man advantage. The Golden Flyers were on the back foot due to a tripping call, as the Valiants took full advantage, unleashing four shots and scoring 1:15 into the two minutes with the extra skater. Tristan D'Elia lit the lamp for the first time in the young season, finishing off a feed from Lane Paddison and Raymond Speerbrecker, to give the Valiants a 1-0 lead just under five minutes into the contest. Manhattanville would strike again later in the period, with Nicholas Rogers rippling the netting after receiving a pass from Artem Mateichenko and Paddison, firing it past the opposing netminder to mount a 2-0 in the opening frame.

Nazareth would test goaltender William Billequey in the second stanza, unloading 19 shots towards goal, with the senior turning all of them away, except for one late in the period. As the buzzer was about to sound, the Golden Flyers put an effort on net from     Joseph Schaefer that found it way past the tender and into the back of the net, slicing the Valiants lead in half at the clock stood at 19:58.2.

The final twenty minutes were deadlocked as neither team could convert on chances generated, ten shots for the visitors compared to the Valiants' eight. Manhattanville was able to use their hot special teams unit late in the period to restore the margin back to two, with Rodgers netting his brace at 17:59 with help from D'Elia and Paddison, seeing the score sit at 3-1. The Valiants would net an empty net insurance goal from Johno Hoins as time ticked away in the period, as the Golden Flyers pulled their netminder in favor of an extra attacker, having the buzzer sound at a 4-1 victory for Manhattanville.

Billequey backed up his UCHC goaltender of the week honors with another great performance, garnering 35 saves for a .972 save percentage on the night.

Manhattanville led the battle in the faceoff circle, 29-25, as Paddison collected nine wins, followed by Ryan McKenna with eight.

The Valiant penalty unit was lethal, converting on two out of three opportunities, and firing seven shots towards goal. Their penalty kill lines were just as stellar, holding the Golden Flyers to an 0-4 day with the man advantage.
