It was the Golden Flyers who struck first on an impressive individual effort by Nate Mann. He took a pass from Cole Bauman in the Golden Flyers defensive zone and skated it all the way up ice down the right side, going wide and knifing in for a quick backhand-to-forehand shot past the keeper.
In the second period, Sayles came up with a huge save at the 16:22 mark, stopping a point-blank shot as he sprawled out to turn the shot aside.
Near the midway point of the period, Anthony Quinlivan received a beautiful pass from Griffin Green and wristed it between the pipes for the 2-0 advantage.
Two of Sayles biggest saves came with 7:30 to go in the third as he stopped two consecutive shots to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard.
Needing to push for a goal late, Chatham pulled the goalie and Logan Tobias was able to put home an empty-netter with 2:19 remaining from Blake Frost and Matt Lakus.
Nazareth and Chatham return to action on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. puck drop for Senior Day.
