No. 2 SUNY Geneseo Dealt First Loss of the Season By Elmira

ELMIRA, NY - The No. 2 SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team was defeated by the Elmira Soaring Eagles this evening, 6-2. This loss is the Ice Knights first of the season and the team now sits at 10-1-1 overall.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Elmira scored the first goal of the game 15 minutes into the first period. They continued their efforts into the second period, scoring their second of the night three minutes in.  

  • The Knights were able to answer back a little over a minute later, with Sean Melso finding the net off a pass from Peter Morgan.  

  • The Soaring Eagles opened the third with another goal thirty seconds in, followed by two more close behind to extend their lead to 5-1.  

  • Filip Wiberg notched the Knights second goal on the power play with six minutes left to play. Elmira went on to seal the game 6-2 with an empty net goal and the Knights suffered their first loss of the season.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Melso tallied his fourth goal of the season and sits at 11 points with seven assists as well.  

  • Wiberg recorded his fifth goal this year, second most on the team behind Morgan with six.

Geneseo heads to Fredonia tomorrow night to face the Blue Devils at 7 PM.
