No. 3 SUNY Geneseo Earns 7-2 Win Over Nazareth

GENESEO, NY - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Hockey Team defeated the Nazareth Golden Flyers (6-7-2) at home on Saturday with a convincing 7-2 victory. Geneseo improved to 13-1-1 overall and 9-0-1 in conference play with the victory.   

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Nathan Stachowiak opened the scoring at 8:05 assisted by Henri Spoof and Payne Gatewood. Zach Purcell delivered the second goal for Geneseo at 10:31, assisted by Luke Panchisin. The Golden Flyers added their first tally before the end of the period.  

  • The Ice Knights capitalized on the powerplay to start the second. Alex Dameski blasted a one-timed slapshot into the top corner to extend the lead. Dakota Zarudny and Panchisin with assists on the play.  

  • Purcell led a breakaway attempt at 4:16 in the second. Filip Wiberg followed the play and converted the rebound to add to the Ice Knights' lead.  

  • Just under two minutes left in the second, Gabriel LaFlamme snuck the puck passed the Nazareth goalie and into the back of the net. Alex Dameski and Peter Morgan with the assists.  

  • Nazareth scored the next goal at 7:38 in the third. The Golden Flyers then pulled their goalie in hopes of a comeback. Tommy Winn took advantage of the empty net at 15:08, with assists coming from Nathan Stachowiak and Henri Spoof.  

  • Purcell added the final goal on a 5-3-man advantage at 17:05. Morgan controlled the puck and found Purcell for the one-timer. Stefan Miklakos with the secondary assist.   

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Jacob Torgner started in net for the Ice Knights and accumulated 40 saves. He now sits at 149 this season with a .943 SV%.  

  • Zach Purcell led the game with three points with two goals and one assist.  

  • Geneseo now holds a 12-3-1 record all-time against the Golden Flyers.

The Ice Knights will host Chatham (4-10-1) on Friday, January 24th, at 7 p.m. in the first half of the weekend series against the Cougars.
