FREDONIA, NY - The Chatham men's hockey team opens the season on a four-game win streak, following a win on the road against Fredonia. They won by a score of 6-1, taking the win in game two of the weekend series.
The Cougars came out rolling in the first period. Freshman Ian Norkevicus set the tone, scoring his first goal of his career six and a half minutes into the frame. Nick Cryprian and Camden Smith assisted on the goal. A minute later, Freshman Kowin Blesterling scored his second goal in as many games to double the Cougars' lead. The Blue Devils cut the lead to 2-1 following a goal of their own a minute later. On the power play, junior Michael Roby would get in on the action, scoring his second of the season from Tyler Samodral and Jake LaRusso. With less than a minute to play in the first, freshman Caden Pendo scored his second goal of his career from Cyprian and Crowe. The Cougars would head into the locker room with a commanding 4-1 lead.
Not satisfied with a three-goal lead, the Cougars continued to strike in the second period. Jake LaRusso added one, assisted by True Crowe at 14:06 in the second frame. Junior Cameron Kuntar was up to the task in net, going 15/15 on saves in the frame.
The Cougars carried on in the third period. At 6:26 in the frame, junior Kadsen Johnson scored his first goal of the season, from Norkevicus and McClaine, to put the game on ice.
After giving up the early goal, Kuntar was perfect the rest of the way, making 38 saves on the night, good for a .974 save percentage. The Cougars' balanced attack saw 12 different players record at least a point, with four of them recording multi-point games. LaRusso and Cyprian have also recorded at least a point in each of the Cougars' first four games.
Next up for the Cougars is the conference opener on Friday, November 14th, where they play host to Nazareth. The parents' weekend crowd will be rocking when the puck drops at 4 pm.
