PITTSBURGH, PA - On Friday the Chatham University Cougars (6-11-1) hosted the Nazareth Golden Flyers (6-10-2) for the first of a two game weekend set. The Golden Flyers started the game well offensively but the Cougars came all the way back and won with a Nick Cyprian overtime goal.
In the first period, the Golden Flyers got two goals on the power plays that Cougar penalties allowed. That gave the Golden Flyers the early 2-0 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms.
In the second period, the Cougars answered back with one goal from Brendan Pomerantz assisted by True Crowe and Cyprian. He scored with just a few minutes left in the period and cut the Golden Flyer lead to one goal.
In the third period, the Cougars were able to find the back of the net again and tie the game at two goals a piece when Michael Roby scored with four minutes left in regulation. He was assisted by Crowe and Kadsen Johnson. There was a late dash by both teams looking for the winner in the last minute of the game and the Golden Flyers looked like they got it with six seconds left in the game but it was waived off and the game went to overtime.
For the second straight Friday the Cougars found themselves in overtime against a conference foe. This time much like last week it was Cyprian scoring the winning goal. He scored the unassisted winner with 2:20 left in overtime to walk off the game.
The Cougars were led offensively by Cyprian and Crowe who had two points a piece, Cyprian two goals and Crowe two assists. Defensively the Cougars were led by Pomerantz, Devin Nabozny, Camden Smith and Evan Mitchell, they all had two blocks to help out the goalie Geno Pichora. Pichora made 31 saves in net giving him a .939 save rate.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday February 1st at 3 p.m. for a home contest with Nazareth.
