No. 5 SUNY Geneseo Outlasts Manhattanville in 5-4 Victory

RYE, NY - The Geneseo Ice Knights finished the night with a 5-4 win over Manhattanville. The Knights now hold an overall record of 15-2-1 and are 11-1-1 in conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights struck first 14 minutes into the first period. Zach Purcell netted his 11th goal of the season, with Peter Morgan on the assist. Carter Diceman followed only a few minutes later with the team's second goal and the Knights ended the first leading 2-0.  

  • Luke Panchisin found the back of the net at 14:29 off a great pass from Purcell; Nicholas Kovacs on the second assist. The Valiants snuck one past the goal line, but Panchisin scored his second of the game on the powerplay, with Carter Diceman and Filip Wiberg on the assists. A lucky goal by Manhattanville ended the second with the Knights leading 4-2. 

  • The Valiant took advantage of a powerplay opportunity and brought the score to 4-3. Kovacs retaliated at 13:18 to put Geneseo up by two. Manhattanville scored their fourth goal of the night to bring the score to 5-4, but the Knights held strong and finished the game with a win.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Luke Panchisin led the team with two goals and now leads the team with 22 points. 

  • Zach Purcell continued his streak and scored his 11th goal of the year, giving him at least one goal in the last five games.  

  • Jacob Torgner tallied his eighth win of the year, making 21 saves.

The Knights will face off against the Valiants again tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM at Manhattanville.
