No. 4 SUNY Geneseo Takes Down SUNY Brockport 7-2

BROCKPORT, NY- The No. 4 SUNY Geneseo Hockey team came out on top over the Brockport Golden Eagles 7-2. Filip Wiberg led the team with two goals and one assist, and the team now sits at 17-2-1 overall and a conference record of 13-1-1.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights struck early, notching their first goal just four minutes into the period. Filip Wiberg got caught up in Brockport defenders, but Zach Purcell came up behind and found the back of the net on a quick wrist shot. Thirty seconds later, Jack McDonald got the pass from Gabriel LaFlamme and went back door to bring the lead to two. Carter Diceman was credited with the second assist.  

  • Brockport scored one of their own to close the gap, but the Knights pushed on, with Payne Gatewood getting the rebound off Nathan Stackowiecks shot to bring the score to 3-1 as they ended the first period.  

  • In the second, Guiseppe Fiorillo found Alex Dameski in the middle of the ice, who skated it down and put a shot over the goalie's shoulder to extend the lead. Brockport answered back with seven minutes left in the period to bring the score to 4-2.  

  • After his incredible hustle to keep the puck in the zone, Cooper Fensterstock netted the team's fifth goal of the night off a pass from Peter Morgan two minutes into the third period.  

  • Filip Wiberg scored his first of the night at 12:27 with a beautiful wrist shot that snuck through the goalie's legs. He followed it up nine seconds later with a 180-shot after breaking up the play in Brockport's defensive end. Zach Purcell had an assist on each of those goals. The Knights finished the evening with a 7-2 victory over the Golden Eagles.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Filip Wiberg and Zach Purcell led the team with three points each.  

  • Adam Harris started in his 12th game of the season, recording 17 saves. 

  • The Knights are currently 26-1-1 against Brockport, with a 19-game winning streak.

The team will host Brockport at the Ira S. Wilson Arena tomorrow night for their Veteran Appreciation Night at 7 PM.
