SUNY Geneseo Takes Down Stevenson 3-1 To Advance In NCAA Tournament

GENESEO, NY - The Geneseo men's hockey team defeated the Stevenson Mustangs 3-1 to advance to the next round of the NCAA Tournament from Ira S. Wilson Arena on Saturday night. Geneseo now sits at 23-4-1 overall, while Stevenson had its season end with an 18-8-2 mark. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights and Mustangs held trough through the first period to keep the game scoreless. Stevenson put 13 shots on net in the first, but Adam Harris was unshakable, and the team went into the first intermission tied 0-0.  

  • Peter Morgan Struck first for the Knights, digging the loose puck from the goalie's pads and into the net. Sterling Wolters and Diramad DiMurro were credited with the assist. Geneseo continued to pepper shot on the Mustang's goal, putting 13 more on net, but ended the second with only a 1-0 lead.  

  • Stevenson came into the third hard and evened the score while on the powerplay nine minutes into the period.  

  • Two minutes later, Zach Purcell lit the lamp after Filip Wiberg found him in front of the net with the backhanded pass to give the Knights a 2-1 lead; DiMurro on the second assist.  

  • With their goal pulled, Carter Diceman sealed the deal with the empty net goal and the Knights advanced to the next round of the NCAA Playoffs with the 3-1 win over Stevenson.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Adam Harris had a stellar night in goal, making 29 saves for a .967 SV%. 

  • Zach Purcell and Diramad DiMurro led the team with two points each. 

  • The Knights are now 6-0 in their matchups against Stevenson, outscoring the Mustangs 32-7 over those six games.
