SUNY Geneseo Has 2024-25 Season End With 2-1 Loss in NCAA Semifinals to Hobart

2025 UCHC Champion Knights finish 24-5-1 in first season as league member

UTICA, NY - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Hockey team ended their season with a 2-1 loss against two-time defending champion Hobart College in the NCAA Division semifinal game form the Nexus Center. The Knights finish the 2025 season with a record of 24-5-1, while the Statesmen advance to the championship game with a record of 28-1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Neither team could break through and find the back of the net in the opening period, with senior goaltender Adam Harris putting up an impressive performance at 17 saves through the first 20 minutes of action. Harris and the Knights defense were able to keep the game tied at 0-0 heading to the second period.
  • Hobart found a way to sneak the puck past Harris early in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights picked up the pressure offensively, but couldn't find the equalizer before the end of the period, and the Statesmen would go on to enter the third period on a power play.
  • The Knights were able to succesfully kill the power play to begin the third period, then Peter Morgan came right from the penalty box, stole the puck from Hobart and fired it over the goalie's shoulder to tie the game for the Knights.
  • Unfortunately, Geneseo couldn't find a way to capitalize on the momentum from Morgan's goal, and Hobart was able to regain a 2-1 lead and fend off the late attack from the Knights.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Geneseo is one of three teams in NCAA DIII hockey to have made five Frozen Four appearances, with the Knights all being within the last 10 years.
