United Collegiate Hockey Conference Commissioner Chuck Mitrano announced that Ron Scales will serve as the Supervisor of Women’s Officials for the 2026-27 season. Scales replaces Jeff Fulton, who served as UCHC Supervisor of Officials since the league’s inception in 2017 and begins his new role as the NCAA National Coordinator of men’s ice hockey officials this season.

A native of Camden, NY, Scales played interscholastically at Rome Free Academy and professionally with the Mohawk Valley Stars. He began officiating at the interscholastic level in 1995 and collegiately in Division III from 2001-2010.

Scales moved into supervisory role in 2011, serving as an off-ice supervisor at the Division III level with the Hockey Referee Assigning Organization. In 2014, he became the coordinator of women’s ice hockey officials with the NESCAC and Conference of New England before joining the New England Hockey Conference the following season.

“I consider myself truly blessed to remain a part of this great game,” said Scales. “When an injury took me off the ice in 2010, I believed my hockey career had come to an end. Thankfully, Jeff Fulton had other plans. Helping officials develop and watching them earn assignments at league championships, national championships, world championships, and even the Olympics has been among the most rewarding work of my career. I look forward to working with the UCHC, its teams, and its coaches to put the best possible product on the ice and to serve the greatest game on earth.”

Scales has served as the Division III Men’s Frozen Four Officiating Supervisor for the last five seasons and served in that same role for four Division III Women’s Frozen Four Championships. He was also a former NCAA Frozen Four Video Replay Official.
