RUTLAND, VT - Haralds Jirgens' game-winning goal in overtime lifted the Arcadia University men's ice hockey team past Rivier in the final day of the Terry Moran Invitational Saturday, 5-4. The Knights had five different goal scorers on the day while goaltender Fletcher Bolda made 16 saves in net for Arcadia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Donnie Feldman got the Knights on the board 22 seconds into the game with an assist from Pallen Brooks. Rivier was quick to respond four minutes later, tying the score at one as the two sides went into the first intermission at a one-all deadlock.
-Rivier took its first lead of the day with a power play goal 27 seconds into the second period and took a two-goal lead with another tally just over seven minutes into the second. Brett Schnieder cut the deficit to one with the Knights' second goal of the afternoon with an assist from Hunter Price, leaving Arcadia down one heading into the final period.
-Still trailing by one in the early moments of the third period, James Spaargaren drew the Knights even with Rivier at three just under two minutes into the period before Sam Whitehouse's shorthanded goal gave Arcadia at 4-3 lead at the halfway point of the period. Rivier responded with a power play goal moments later, sending the game to overtime at four-all.
-With Rivier on the power play four minutes into overtime, Haralds Jirgens took a pass from Dylan Florit following a Fletcher Bolda save and went down the right side of the ice before sending the game-winner past the Rivier goaltender to lift Arcadia to the 5-4 victory.
