Nazareth Earns First Win of 2021-22 With 3-0 Shutout Victory

ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Ryan Turse scored his first career goal early in the third period as the Nazareth College Men's Hockey team snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Lebanon Valley Friday night at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.

The 15-game streak started with the final two games of the 2019-20 season in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) playoffs. The Golden Flyers did not win a game in the Covid-19 pandemic shortened season last year and dropped the first two games of the 2021-22 season.

Senior Cole Moore opened the scoring with a power play goal late in the first period as Nazareth (1-2 overall, 1-0 UCHC) held a commanding 11-4 edge in shots in the first stanza. Turse and fellow freshman Keith Davenport added assists on the scoring play.

The teams played a close second period and the score remained 1-0 as the third period started.

Freshman Jeremy Swartz took a pass from junior Henry McKinney and fired a hard shot from the point and Turse was on the door step to deflect the puck into the back of the goal for the 2-0 lead just 1:20 into the period.

Late in the game, Lebanon Valley (1-2, 0-1 UCHC) pulled its goalie for the extra attacker but Senior JT Entelisano stole the puck and raced in for the empty net goal to cap the scoring with 35 seconds remaining.

Nazareth continues UCHC play Saturday with a 4 p.m. home game against Arcadia. The Knights joined the UCHC this season.
