GLENSIDE, PA – Nazareth erupted for five goals in the third period Friday to break open a close game as the Golden Flyers defeated Arcadia for the second time this season in men's hockey, 7-2.
Nazareth improved to 6-9-2 overall and 5-4-1 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference games. Arcadia dropped to 3-13-0 and 1-8-0. Nazareth also defeated the Knights 6-1 at Nazareth back on Nov. 6.
Henry McKinney had two goals and two assists for Nazareth and Ryan Turse and Joey Schaefer each added one goal and one assist. Ethan Louisos, Ray Falso and Nick Charron also scored.
First-period goals by Schaefer and Louisos staked the Golden Flyers to an early lead, before Arcadia got on the scoreboard with a short-handed goal at 7:05 of the second.
Schaefer's goal came on a wrist shot off the face-off from McKinney at 5:58 of the first period. Schaefer's shot trickled through the pads of Arcadia goaltender Jeb Lindy before the puck crossed the goal line.
Louisos' goal came about five minutes later after McKinney won another face-off in the Nazareth zone. Cole Moore pushed a pass ahead to Louisos, who skated into the Arcadia end and completed the play for his third goal of the season.
After Arcadia scored in the second period the score went unchanged until 6:15 of the third when Falso finished a pass that came from behind the goal off the stick of Johnny Jackson. Mitch Culver also assisted.
That triggered a barrage of four straight goals that pushed Nazareth's lead to 6-1. McKinney's first goal came at 13:31 off a rebound of a shot by Schaefer with Jake Peters also assisting. At 16:47, Charron scored in similar fashion off a rebound by Turse.
Turse scored 28 seconds after that to make the score 6-1. Then, after Arcadia added a goal just 25 seconds after that, McKinney completed the scoring with an empty-net tally at 18:59.
