BUFFALO, NY – Graduate student Ray Falso scored a pair of goals and freshman Josh Dressler handed out three assists to lead the Nazareth College Men's Hockey team to a 6-3 non-conference victory Saturday night.
The game was scoreless until late in the first period when Falso knocked in a rebound with less than two minutes left in the period to give Nazareth (3-8-1) the lead.
Just over a minute later freshman Ethan Louisos rifled a shot past the Buffalo State (4-10) goalie for the two-goal advantage.
The Bengals made a rush up the ice 18 seconds later and scored to cut the lead in half as three goals were scored in the final two minutes of the stanza.
Freshman Keith Davenport opened the second period with a goal at the 4:47 mark as Nazareth regained the two-goal advantage.
Falso added his second goal of the game almost three minutes later with assists from senior Mitch Culver and sophomore Liam Beaudoin as the Golden Flyers pushed the lead to 4-1.
Buffalo State answered quickly again with its second goal of the game just 19 seconds later and drew even closer two minutes later as the Bengals trimmed the lead to 4-3 near the midway point of the second period.
Sophomore Johnny Jackson responded with his first goal in five games just over a minute later to regain a two-goal lead.
Nazareth went into the second intermission with a 5-3 lead.
Five minutes into the third period, freshman Liam Quinlivan scored his second goal of the season to give the Golden Flyers a 6-3 edge.
Freshman Matt Sayles made 29 saves including 11 in the third period as he kept the Bengals off the board in for the final 30 minutes of the game.
Nazareth returns to action Tuesday and will host No. 2 SUNY Geneseo with a 7 p.m. game at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
