READING, PA – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team set a program record with 10 goals, including a hat trick from sophomore Alex Rivet, as the Mustangs defeated Alvernia 10-1 Saturday night at the Body Zone. With the win, Stevenson improves to 3-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in UCHC play while Alvernia falls to 3-2-1 overall and 2-2-0 in UCHC play.
Anthony Starzi deposited the game's first goal just three minutes into the game with assists from Liam McCanney and Austin Master. The Mustangs continued their offensive pressure by taking 23 shots to Alvernia's 12 in the first period.
Stevenson carried its offensive pressure to the second period, earning five goals in the middle frame alone. Seth Bergeron notched his first career goal at 4:20. Just 22 seconds later, Graeme McCrory earned a goal to put Stevenson up 3-0. Malcolm Palmer added a power play goal at the 8:00 minute mark.
Alex Rivet continued Stevenson's flurry of goals at 9:15 while Austin Master moved Stevenson's lead to 6-0 at 15:08. The Mustangs took 18 shots in the second period while Alvernia took 15.
The Mustangs carried their momentum to the third period as Zach Egber found the back of the net to give Stevenson a 7-0 lead. Jack Karlsson netted his first career goal at 6:00. Marko Sturma entered in goal to relieve Ryan Kenny for the remainder of the game. One minute later Alex Rivet picked up his second goal of the game for a 9-0 lead. Alvernia netted a goal at 8:16 from Peter Falivena. Rivet added his hat trick goal on the Power Play at 15:38.
