Alvernia Hands Nazareth First UCHC Loss of 2022-23 Season

READING, PA - Two second period goals propelled Alvernia University (4-3-1, 3-3-0) to a 2-1 victory over Nazareth College (6-3-0, 5-1-0), in UCHC men's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at BodyZone. 

A tight first period saw the Golden Wolves edging the Golden Flyers on shots on goal by a total of 7-6. Alvernia's Issac Chapman and Brendan McBride both tallied two shots on goal and Sawyer Senio, Peter Falivena and Gabriel Malek all fired one shot on goal in the first period. 

Nazareth broke the 0-0 tie in the seventh minute of the second period when Joshua Dressler and Liam Beaudoin assisted Joseph Schaefer to give the Golden Flyers a 1-0 advantage. 

Alvernia rattled off nine shots after the Nazareth goal with Malek, McBride and Matthew Davies all sending shots on goal that were saved by Raphael Provencher. 

The Golden Wolves evened the score with just under five minutes to go in the second period when Riley Egan found Jordan Gagnon who fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. 

Alvernia would tally five shots before Kyle Patton gave the Golden Wolves a 2-1 advantage thanks to assists from Max Cole and Michael Andrews to give Alvernia a one goal lead heading into the final intermission. 

Alvernia held Nazareth to just five shots on goal in the third period to hold on to the 2-1 lead and even the weekend series against the Golden Flyers. 

Brandon Daigle got the win in net for Alvernia and tallied 18 saves. 

Alvernia was led by Patton and Gagnon with goals and Cole, Egan and Andrews all tallied assists. McBride led the Golden Wolves with five shots on goal. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on December 2nd when they travel to Manhattanville College to take on the Valiants at 7:00 PM.
