Wilkes Sweeps Season Series with King's Following 5-0 UCHC Victory

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Following a scoreless first period, the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team scored two goals in the second before netting three more in the third on way to a 5-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over cross-town rival King's College Sunday afternoon at the Toyota SportsPlex.
 
With the win, Wilkes swept the season series against the Monarchs following a 6-2 decision on the road a day earlier moving its overall mark to 6-3 and 4-2 in conference play. King's dropped to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in league games.
 
King's saw the better of the play in a scoreless first period holding a shot advantage in the first twenty minutes.
 
From there it was all Wilkes as the Colonels scored two goals in the second period and three more in the third to coast to the five-goal conference victory.
 
Teague Porter opened the scoring for the Colonels taking a pass from Steven Spetz and Christopher Paige before depositing a shot into the back of the net 4:30 into the frame. Max Cocchi made it 2-0 at the 13:07 mark of the second scoring off assist from Cam Lowe and Jimmy O'Kane.
 
Nick Swain continue his hot stick 1:49 into the third period scoring on the power-play thanks to helpers from Patrick Roginski and Billy Berry to make it 3-0. Cole Jungwirth added the Colonels fourth tally two minutes later when he drilled a shot past the Monarch goalie with assists from Roginski and Daniel Nau.
 
Swain then collected his second goal of the game and fifth in two games following a hat trick in the first game against King's earlier in the week. Cocchi and O'Kane added the assists on the play.
 
Michael Patterson-Jones earned the win in the crease for Wilkes making 29 saves.
 
The Colonels continue UCHC play when they host Chatham University Saturday at 4:00 p.m. from the Toyota SportsPlex.
