Nazareth Scores Pivotal 5-3 Win Over Neumann

ASTON, PA – Sophomore Logan Tobias scored twice to help to aid the Nazareth University Men's hock team to a crucial 5-3 win Friday night over Neumann University.
 
The Golden Flyers add an important win and now stand 4-11-2 in UCHC play (5-15-2 overall), and the Knights are 5-11-1 in the UCHC (5-15-1 overall). The Golden Flyer moved from ninth place to the eighth and final spot for the UCHC championships with 17 points in 17 games. Neumann has 16 points with 17 games played and Arcadia has 16 points with 18 games played.
 
Just over halfway through the first period, Naz survived its first penalty kill of the game and managed to take the lead less than thirty seconds later. Junior Ethan Louisos tipped a shot from classmate Jeremy Schwartz for the first goal of the night, sophomore Blake Frost earned an assist as well.
 
Junior Matt Sayles stood his ground and came up with some big saves to keep the Golden Flyers leading 1-0 at the end of the first.      
 
Within the first minute of the second period, junior Anthony Quinlivan scored a diving backhand goal off a shot from Swartz. Sophomore Mark Meniecke also earned a point for his assist on the play.
 
Five minutes later, freshman Daisuke Egusa buried a pass from fellow first-year Kai Shen top-shelf for the third goal of the game.
 
Sayles managed to keep the score 3-0 with a key save on his back in the last few minutes of the second. 
 
Neumann struck first in the third for its first of the game to cut the lead 3-1, but shortly after Tobias scored a power play goal for his eleventh of the season, with assists to Frost and Louisos.
 
The Knights had two unanswered goals across the rest of the period to make the score 4-3, but Tobias put the game away in the last : 43 seconds with an empty net goal for a final of 5-3.  
 
The Golden Flyers look to complete the weekend sweep against the Knights tomorrow at 4 p.m.
