POTSDAM, NY (nazathletics.com) – After Potsdam tied the game early in the third period, Amy Laskowski helped spark the Golden Flyers' response, contributing to all three goals as Nazareth scored twice in a three-minute span to secure a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon in Potsdam. With the win, Nazareth improves to 1-0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Golden Flyers came out with a purpose to begin the game, as they looked to bounce back after tying Canton on Friday. They generated seven shots through the first four minutes but couldn't solve the Potsdam goaltender.
- They kept the same mentality throughout the remainder of the period, generating a total of 15 shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net. Mia Gonsalves stopped all five shots she saw for Nazareth.
- Halfway through the second frame, Nazareth took the lead, courtesy of Amy Laskowski. Nikki Sharp caught the breakout pass from Maggie Jacoby and fed a streaking Laskowski through the middle, who made no mistake on the breakaway.
- The second period concluded with Nazareth holding a 29-11 shots-on-goal advantage and the lead.
- However, just 46 seconds into the third period Potsdam would respond to even the score at 1-1.
- Five minutes after Potsdam's goal, Nazareth responded with two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead. Sharp scored first, followed by Laskowski's second goal of the game. Jacoby assisted on both goals, helping the Golden Flyers regain control.
- The Golden Flyers would lock it down defensively for the remainder of the third period to earn a 3-1 win.
