UCHC Weekly Awards – February 20, 2023

The United Collegiate Hockey Conference is pleased to announce its weekly award winners, released on February 20, 2023, for games played from February 13-February 19. The UCHC weekly awards program highlights the top performances from around the conference over each week of the regular season. It is the 14th and final UCHC weekly honors release of the 2022-23 season. 
 
UCHC MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Logan Tobias, Nazareth, Fr., F, West Seneca, NY
Tobias continued his hot scoring streak as he added another five goals including his second hat-trick of the month to his season totals over the weekend, as Nazareth secured the No. 2 seed in the UCHC Tournament. He scored twice Friday and then added three goals Saturday in the sweep of Chatham. Tobias’ 17 goals (.74 per game) ranks No. 8 in the country and is the top freshman in the nation.
 
UCHC WOMEN’S CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gabrielle Cox, Manhattanville, Sr., F, Niverville, NY
Cox concluded her phenomenal regular season with a six-point weekend in a sweep of Neumann, scoring five goals and nabbing an assist. She scored twice in Friday's victory against the Knights. The next day, she celebrated Senior Day in style with her third hat-trick of the year and an assist. That brought her season goal total to 30, as she is just the fourth player in program history to reach that plateau. She also has 11 power-plays which ties the Manhattanville single-season mark.
 
UCHC WOMEN’S CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Olivia Gilida, Alvernia, Sr., D, Littleton, CO
Gilida led Alvernia to a 2-0 week with three goals and an assist as the Golden Wolves secured their first MAC Championship and earned home ice for the opening round of the UCHC Championship Tournament. Gilida put Alvernia on the board with the opening goal of a 5-0 win on Friday. She then recorded two goals and added an assist in a 5-0 win on Saturday.
 
UCHC MEN’S GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Raphael Provencher, Nazareth, So., G, Drummondville, QUE
Provencher made 28 saves on 29 shots, including 13 in the third period. as Nazareth won a 4-1 decision at Chatham Friday night. The Golden Flyers clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming UCHC Tournament.
 
UCHC WOMEN’S GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – McKinley Hoff, Nazareth, Jr., G, Anchorage, AK
Hoff helped Nazareth to a tie (shootout win) and an overtime win over Utica to secure the UCHC regular-season title for the second consecutive season over the weekend. She finished with 62 saves, a .954 save percentage, allowed just three goals and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stops during the shootout to decide the extra standings point in Friday's game.
 
UCHC CO-MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Matt Carlson, Wilkes, Fr., F, Delmar, NY
Carlson recorded five points on three goals and had two assists during the final UCHC regular season series to help the Colonels go 1-0-1 and move from the sixth seed to the fifth seed. Carlson scored a goal and added two assists in the Colonels 9-3 win over the Knights on Friday. He followed that performance with a two goal game in a 3-3 tie on Saturday. It is his second UCHC weekly honor of the season.
 
UCHC CO-MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Sebastian Woods, Manhattanville, Fr., G, Limehouse, Ontario
Woods notched a pair of wins in the crease last weekend to help the Valiants secure the No. 4 seed, stopping 61-of-65 in the two game sweep of King's for a .938 save percentage. He made 31 stops against the Monarchs on Friday and made another 30 saves Saturday to earn his 11th win of the season. He ends the regular season with a .918 save percentage and a 2.89 goals-against average. It is his third UCHC weekly accolade.
 
UCHC WOMEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Karina Strauts, Lebanon Valley, Fr., F, Brandon, WI
Strauts had a pair of two-point games to lead the Dutchmen to a weekend sweep of Wilkes. The first-year had four points on two goals and two assists breaking the LVC record for points, goals, and assists in a single season. The forward began the weekend with a goal and an assist in a 4-1 Senior Night victory over the Colonels. She assisted on the game-winning goal and then scored an insurance goal in the second period to give the Dutchmen a 3-1 lead. Strauts had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Strauts scored the first goal of the game and then assisted on the game-winner once again which was scored with 1:23 left in the third. It is her third UCHC weekly accolade of the season.
