2023 UCHC Men's Championship to Begin With Quarterfinal Action Feb. 22; Top-Seed Utica Looks to Repeat

The eight-team 2023 UCHC Men's Hockey Championship Tournament will begin with quarterfinal action on Wednesday, Feb. 22, Semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 25 and the Championship game on Saturday, March 4. Utica University, ranked No. 1 in the USCHO Division III Men’s Hockey poll, is the top overall seed in the upcoming tournament and will look to win its second straight league title, third in the last four seasons and fourth overall.

^ Utica and Arcadia play on Sunday to end the regular season. Arcadia could jump to seventh with a regulation win, overtime win or tie and shootout win.

No. 8 Arcadia at No. 1 Utica, Wednesday - 7 p.m.
Utica is the No. 1 ranked team in Division III and enters the UCHC Championship Tournament riding a 23-game unbeaten streak (22-0-1) and 15-game winning streak. Utica has not lost a game since the opening weekend of the regular season. The Pioneers earned 58 of a possible 60 points in league play this season and are the No. 1 seed in the UCHC Tournament for the sixth straight season. Utica is out-scoring opponents, 140-47 this season and have three players with at least 30 points, 11 with at least 20 points and 16 with 14 or more points. Mic Curran leads the team in scoring with 11 goals, 23 assists and 34 points, while Remy Parker is tied for the league lead with 21 goals. Jayson Dobay leads all UCHC student-athletes with 26 assists. Bryan Landsberger is 22-2-1 in goal this season with a 1.79 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage. Landsberger leads all Division III goaltenders in wins.
 
Arcadia won five league games in 2022-23. Drew Ianucci leads the Knights in scoring with 22 points on five goals and 17 assists, while James Spaargarden and Dylan Florit have seven goals apiece. Fletcher Bolda and Jeb Lindy have split time in net, combining to record an .895 save percentage.
 
Utica and Arcadia will be meeting for the third time in five days on Wednesday. The Pioneers rolled to a pair of 7-1 wins at Arcadia on Feb. 18-19. The Pioneers are the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the sixth straight season.
 
No. 7 Alvernia at No. 2 Nazareth, Wednesday - 7 p.m.
Nazareth enters the tournament having completed their most successful regular season in program history, having finished 16-7-2 overall and 14-5-1 in league play. Nazareth has out-scored opponents, 77-52 this season and boast 10 players who have tallied at least 10 points in 2022-23. Henry McKinney leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 31 points on nine goals and 22 assists, while Blake Frost has 17 assists and first-year standout Logan Tobias has a team-high 17 goals, including two hat-tricks in February. Goaltenders Raphael Provencher and Matt Sayles have split time in net and have combined to record a 2.03 goals against average and .918 save percentage. Provencher has 10 wins, while Sayles has a 1.87 goals against average.
 
Alvernia advanced to the UCHC Tournament in its first season as a Division III program. The Golden Wolves won eight games, including six in conference play in 2022-23. Logan vande Meerakker leads the team in scoring with 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists, while Jason Finan has a team-high 11 goals. Eight different players have at least 10 points this season. Brandon Daigle and Colin Cain have split time in goal. Daigle has a .903 save percentage in 13 games.
 
Nazareth and Alvernia split the regular season series. On Nov. 17, Nazareth skated to a 1-0 win at Alvernia, while the Golden Wolves rallied for a 2-1 win the following afternoon.
 
No. 6 Chatham at No. 3 Stevenson, Wednesday - 7 p.m.
Stevenson enters the UCHC Championship riding a six-game unbeaten streak en route to an 14-9-2 overall record. The Mustangs are out-scoring foes, 103-62 and boasts 13 players who have recorded at least 10 points in 2022-23. Liam McCanney leads all UCHC student-athletes in scoring with 21 goals and 38 points. He also has four game-winning tallies. Austin Master has a team-high 18 assists to go along with eight goals. Goaltender Ryan Kenny, the reigning UCHC Goaltender of the Year is 12-7-1 with a 2.14 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. Kenny, along with Master, also led the United States to a silver medal at the World University games last month.
 
Chatham enters the UCHC Tournament having recorded a program record 14 wins, including 11 in league play. The Cougars have 10 players with at least 10 points this season, including Caden Smith, who leads the team in scoring with 31 points on 13 goals and 18 assists. Andrew Warhoftig also has 13 goals and 24 points. Ricardo Gonzalez is 12-6-2 in net with a 2.81 goals against average and a .915 save percentage.
 
Stevenson and Chatham played a pair of hard fought contests at the Reistertown Sportsplex on Jan. 20-21. The two teams skated to a 4-4 draw with Stevenson earning the extra point in the shootout in the opener, while Chatham responded with a 5-4 win the following afternoon.
 
No. 5 Wilkes at No. 4 Manhattanville, Wednesday - 7 p.m.
Manhattanville enters the tournament with a 13-10-2 overall record, including a 12-7-1 mark in league play. The Valiants have 13 players with at least 10 points. Mason Emoff leads the team in scoring with 22 points on nine goals and 13 assists. Artem Mateichenko has a team-high 17 assists and 21 points, while AJ Bella has a team-high 12 goals. Sebastian Woods has played the majority of time in net, with a 11-4-2 record, 2,89 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.
 
Wilkes enters the tournament with an 13-9-3 overall record and 11 wins in league play. The Colonels boast eight players with at least 10 points. Matt Carlson and Ben Stefanini have both scored 12 points apiece to lead the team. Carlson has a team-high 21 points, while Cole Jungwirth leads the team with 14 assists. Michael Paterson-Jones and Garrett Nieto have combined to go 13-8-3 between the pipes. Nieto has recorded a 2.57 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.
 
Manhattanville and Wilkes split the regular season back in November. Wilkes won the opener on home ice, 4-3 in overtime on Nov. 12, while Manhattanville earned a 3-1 win the following day.
