ROCHESTER, NY - The United Collegiate Hockey Conference is pleased to announce its eleventh women’s weekly award winners of the 2019-20 season. The UCHC weekly awards program highlights the best and brightest performances from around the conference over each week of the regular season. For award purposes, the award week runs from Monday through Sunday.
Women's North Player of the Week: Gina Scibetta, William Smith
Scibetta compiled six points on three goals and three assists in a 2-0-0 week for the Herons against the No. 1 and 2 teams in the UCHC South Division. On Friday against Neumann, she had four points on two goals and two assists in an 8-2 win. With two points in the first period, Scibetta became the first Heron to record 100 points in her career. On Saturday against the south division leading Manhattanville, Scibetta had a goal and an assist. She set up the game's opening goal and scored early in the third period. Scibetta has recorded at least a point in eight straight games and has had seven straight multi-point games. Scibetta leads the team with 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists. She is third in the UCHC in points.
Women's South Player of the Week: Nikki Kendrick, Stevenson
Kendrick finished the weekend with five points, including two game-tying goals, as the Mustangs posted a pair of UCHC ties. Versus Nazareth, the sophomore recorded three points on two goals and one assist, including one power play goal. She assisted on the game's opening goal of the game before scoring a second period unassisted goal. Kendrick sent the game to overtime with 55 seconds remaining. Versus Utica, Kendrick netted two goals, including the game-tying goal with 1:12 left. She also scored a shorthanded goal.
Women's North Rookie of the Week: Julianna Gong, William Smith
Gong led William Smith with seven points on four goals and three assists this past weekend. She guided the Herons to a 2-0-0 record against the top two teams from the South Division. On Friday against Neumann, she factored into six of William Smith's eight goals , finishing the game with four goals and two assists. Gong's four goals and six points matched William Smith's single-game record. The next day, she had an assist in the Herons 5-4 victory over Manhattanville. Gong leads the UCHC and is third in the nation in rookie scoring with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. She has recorded at least a point in seven straight games.
Women's South Rookie of the Week: Karly Aguirre, Stevenson
Aguirre had a three point weekend in a pair of ties for the Mustangs. The rookie recorded all three points in a 4-4 overtime tie versus Utica. Aguirre netted the game's opening goal in the second period. She assisted on a power play goal to start the third period before dishing out the lone assist on the game-tying goal with 1:12 remaining in regulation. Aguirre finished the weekend with six shots and a +1 rating.
Women's North Goaltender of the Week: Alexa Rango, Wilkes
Rango earned her first career victory in a 4-2 victory Sunday over Lebanon Valley. The sophomore stopped 32 of 34 shots for a .942 save percentage. Rango made 17 saves in the first period to help lead the Colonels to the UCHC and MAC victory. She was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
Women's South Goaltender of the Week: Annie Smyth-Hammond, Stevenson
Smyth-Hammond recorded a career-high 48 saves in a 5-5 overtime tie versus Nazareth. The senior became the third goalie in program history to eclipse the 1,000 career save mark. She stopped all four shots in overtime.
